About the event

Transitions and Legal Planning for Life After Age 18!

This session is most appropriate for parents, students, teachers, providers, and/or other professionals involved in transition planning at any age. Transition is the necessary link between school and the student’s future and their quality of life throughout adulthood.

Transition may involve a person’s right to self direction and may include assessing the need for legal planning to include the use of guardianship, conservators and/or Durable Powers of Attorney to enable the student and their families to realize their dreams and desires for the future.

This session covers the following areas:

Ø School Age Transition Planning

Ø Eligibility and Qualification for Social Security and Medicaid

Ø Self Direction

Ø ABLE Accounts

Ø Limited and Full Guardianship

Ø Conservator

Ø Durable Power of Attorney

Ø Special Needs Trusts

Ø Special Needs Estate Planning for Parents

Estate Planning Basics: What everyone needs to know!

Learn the benefits of planning for your future! Whether you’re a young adult or a senior citizen, you’ll find this session important for planning for yourself, your family, and distribution of your assets. Attend this seminar for important information about:

Ø Wills: Learn who should have a will, why it’s important, and what happens when you don’t have a will

Ø Trusts: Learn what trusts can do, how they are beneficial

Ø Persons with Disabilities receiving governmental benefits: The use of Special and Supplemental Needs Trusts

Ø Probate: Distributing a person’s assets upon death

Ø Giving Other People the Power to Make Decisions for You: Types of power of attorney, living wills, and types of guardianship and conservatorship

Special Needs Trusts and Ensuring Quality of Life!

This session is appropriate for CPA’s, Financial Planners, individuals, and parents of individuals receiving or likely to receive government benefits, who plan to ensure an individual beneficiary’s quality of life. Special needs trusts (also known as “supplemental needs” trusts) allow a beneficiary with disabilities to receive gifts, lawsuit settlements, or other funds and retain his or her eligibility for certain government programs and ensuring quality of life.

It is never too soon to establish a qualifying trust for an individual with rights to government benefits. Proper planning provides peace of mind and reduces unforeseen loss of benefits and disruption of services into the future.

Affirmative Life Planning

This session is most appropriate for parents, students, teachers, providers, and professionals working with transition age students and their families in development of goals pertaining to education and services throughout the lifetime of a person with disability.

The establishment of an Affirmative Life Plan utilizes a team approach involving family, professionals, and legal counsel to develop a comprehensive plan incorporating the hopes and dreams of a person with special needs. An Affirmative Life Plan addresses an array of issues unique to assisting persons with special needs in sustaining a quality of life with excellent care, supports, and resources throughout their lifetime, and assists in planning for the “extras’ without jeopardizing the persons government benefits.
